Is a Handyman Business Profitable Enough To Make a Living

I have been making a living from my handyman business for over 3 years now. I remember it so vividly. I was working a job I hated. A few months before I started a handyman business website as a project for an SEO course I was taking. I had experience fixing stuff so I thought that would be something I could write about for the website I was trying to rank.

But little did I know that handymen are in high demand

That’s right? The fact is I found out that a lot of the handyman listings in Google were actually contractors that used that keyword to get business. The negative thing about that is that contractors do not want to do small handyman jobs.

The reason is they don’t make enough money for their contracting business. They need bigger jobs. This leaves the homeowner looking for someone to do the small jobs. Guess who that would be?

You of course. All you need to do is let people know and you won’t have any problems making a living.

Is There A Demand For Handyman

According to Job-Flex.com Handymen are in demand everywhere. As a handyman myself I can tell you that it is true. I had no idea how much handymen were in demand until I started my website connecticuthandymanservices.com

I hadn’t had the website live for three months before I started getting calls. At first I didn’t take the calls because that wasn’t my goal. But as my 9 – 5 got harder and harder to bear my wife suggested I take some handyman calls and see how it goes.

I worked It 6 Months Before I Went Full Time

I started working the handyman business part time scheduling work on the weekends. Not long after the calls were getting so intense I was having a hard time juggling my 9 – 5 and getting my handyman work done.

At that point, I had figured out how much to charge people without offending them and was making triple the amount I was earning on my 9 – 5. So after 6 months, I took the plunge into full-time entrepreneurship. It was a decision I would never regret.

Then Hit The COVID Pandemic

After just 3 months of starting my Handyman Business COVID hit us hard. You would think because all businesses were struggling and laying people off the same would happen to me. But the opposite was true.

People Were Spending Their Relief Money On Upgrades

When the government started handing out checks people were stuck at home. I thought my business was going to die and my livelihood along with it. I had found out that my old job was letting people go so I would have lost that job anyway.

So for the first month of the pandemic I DID NOTHING BUT SIT AT HOME LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. But then I got a call to help a women with her deck. Then another, and another. Then to my surprise I was busy for the rest of the year repairing decks

Do I Know Enough To Be a Handyman

I can relate to that. When I started I had no idea what I needed to know to become a handyman. But what I found out was you really don’t have to know to much. Just start doing the things you can do. Guess what my very first handyman job was?

Painting an office. Can you paint? If not just say you aren’t available. If you want to try it just look it up on YouTube. YouTube is your best friend if you don’t know how to do something. Guess what my second handyman job was? Changing a couple of light bulbs.

I have had so many simple jobs that anyone can do. So so not be afraid to start your handyman business because you don’t think you can do it.
